A Desert Tortise found in the wilds of Joshua Tree National Park - Spring 2005. Handling tortoises found in the desert may cause them to void their vital internal water supply. Since few tortoises survive handling Please leave them alone.<More Info>

Chuckwallas, Sauromalus obesus (ater) or "Big fat ugly lizard". When Chuckwallas are threatened they scurry into into crevices and inflate aire bladders making it difficult for them to be removed. Local Indian tribes considered the chuckwalla a delicacy and hunted them with a special tool.

The Tarantula - large hairy, scary and harmless. With a bite less toxic than a bee sting tarantulas are welcome around the house as hunters and trappers that eat small rodents and insects.

Cousin to the tarantula the very cute Striped Groundtula is a scavenger. Mooching nuts and snacks at local outdoor pubs and cafes their voracious appetites often leave you with a huge bar tab as they guzzle your beer. Never feed wild animals.
